Google Adwords Keyword Tool

Google Adwords Keyword Tool

One of Google’s many Services is Google Adwords, which is an Advertising Platform that does indeed cost money to buy ads to be placed on the Google Search or Google Content Networks. BUT, the account itself is free, and Google will eventually give you $100 credit to get you started buying ads if you wish. Inside the FREE account, there is a tool call the Keyword Tool which you can use to Discover what Keywords people use to search for different topics. Just enter a few words to describe your topic of interest and Google will return a list of the most used Keywords, as well as data on how many people are trying to advertise using that Keyword, and how much they are spending to do so, giving you real insight into the Opportunity of any topic you might be interested in producing your website about.

Google Chrome – Web Browser

Google Chrome Logo

The Web Browser is probably the most used piece of software anyone uses on a daily basis. And from the perspective of the Producer of a Money Making Website, it becomes even more important. Since Google is so prevalent in our business tools and services, and has made such strides in integrating those services it provides, it makes sense that me might favour Google Chrome as our Web Browser of choice. Not only is it fast and secure (comparatively speaking), but the integration of Google Services into the browser make it even more compelling.

Google Docs

Google Docs Logo

Google Docs are part of the Google Accounts suite of Tools and Services, but since they are so useful, and critical to the Zero To Money Making Website program and Document Management in general, this document sharing service deserves it’s own due attention. Google Docs itself is a suite of document types very much like Microsoft Office, Apple iWork and even Oracles old suite (does anyone use that anymore?) There is a WordPress Processor for Text Documents (Word, Pages), a Spreadsheet Document (Exel, Numbers), and a Presentation/Slideshow Document (PowerPoint, KeyNote), as well as a Drawing program for making images, and a Form Tool for collecting data, although we never use either of those two tools.

DropBox

Dropbox is a free service that lets you bring your photos, docs, and videos anywhere and share them easily. Dropbox was founded in 2007 by Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi, two MIT students tired of emailing files to themselves to work from more than one computer. Today, more than 50 million people across every continent use Dropbox to always have their stuff at hand, share with family and friends, and work on team projects.

Awesome Screenshot – Browser Extension for Image Capture of  Webpages

Awesome Screenshot Logo

The first Browser Extension you should add to Chrome, Firefox, Explorer or Safari is a Screen Capture Plugin/Extension so that you can create an image out of the website page your viewing. A good Screen Capture or ScreenGrab tool will allow you to capture to your clipboard, or save the file to your Desktop in multiple format. You should also be able to capture the entire length of the page, scrolling included. Awesome Screenshot does all that, and adds to it ease-of-use, and even annotation markup so you can add notes, graphics, arrows, call-outs and more to your images.

Last Pass for Password Management

Last Pass Logo

Password Management can be a HUGE PAIN, the AS-if-you-didn’t-know… And in the world of Websites, there are literally hundreds of Passwords that we need to track for the Tools and Services listed here, and beyond. What’s more, Password Management is obviously, an issue of security. And 9 out of 10 people have the SAME password for everything, and it’s usually an insecure password based on something in their lives like a nickname, or favourite things. For each account you create you should have a unique and secure password. Secure passwords are notoriously annoying like #f63sdgs85 –who can remember that crazy string. This is where Last Pass comes in. It will generate and store secure passwords in a central location, accessible by your browser, so that when you browse to a website that requires those credentials, they are auto-filled and ready for you to log in. Ahhhh…. Peace at last.

Dreamhost – Website Hosting and Domain Name Management

Dreamhost

At DreamHost they’ve been happily hosting their clients’ dreams (and websites) since April 1997. That was when four Computer Science undergraduates at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA launched this company with no capital apart from a single Pentium 100 web server (Destro was her name), using shared bandwidth on a T1 line that a friend gave them at no cost. By necessity they had to be frugal, but even with their less than ample resources they always did their best to provide a quality service at a reasonable price.

  • Problems Solved: Website Hosting, Domain Name Management
  • Price: Hosting – $9.96/month, Domains – $10

Blue Host – Website Hosting and Domain Name Management

Netfirms – Website Hosting and Domain Name Management

Netfirms Logo
Netfirms is competitive in all aspects and is become a favourite of ours for Domain Name Management. We haven’t hosted any sites full time as of this articles last update, but we will very shortly as we build out the Mega-Net for various Million Dollar Website’s networks. Slightly more expensive all around over Dreamhost and Bluehost, but when you realize the TRUE COST by accounting for the included IP and SSL and 5 included Domains the price seems lower.

  • Problems Solved: Website Hosting, Domain Name Management
  • Price: Hosting – $14.95/month, Domains – $8

WordPress – Content Management System

Wordpress Logo
WordPress is by far the most widely Content Management System in the world. And rightfully so. It’s flexible, and powerful, and has come a long way since I started using it in 2005. Now, a full-fledged Content Management System capable of creating the most complex, and dynamic sites in the world, including some Massive Case Studies like Mashable.comGigaom.comTechCrunch.com, SmashingMagazine.com and my humble TheMasterCleanse.org, to name a few. Research – Department of Operations: Level Zero

Domai.nr – Domain Name Research Tool

Domainr Logo

Domai.nr is an Ajax Domain Name Research Tool, meaning the searches happen on-screen, without needed a page refresh, for very quick domain name searches. The unique quality of Domai.nr is that it searches for creative solutions for the “Brand” that you’re looking for. Let’s use Domai.nr itself as an example. The Domain “Domainer.com” was taken. But they liked the name. So they found a creative way to still get it by removing a letter and utilizing less competitive country TLD’s (Top Level Domains), like .us for the United States and .ca for Canada.

Dotster – Domain Name Research Tool

Dotster is a Domain Name Management Network that owns several registrars, but they have one of the best Domain Name Searching tools I have found. It’s not an Ajax Domain Name Search, but it does load the top 10 domains for each search and they persist for each new search. And, the extended search results searches for Domains names from many, many countries for even deeper possible choices for your website’s domain name.

  • Price: Free to search. Pay to register. Expensive to register, use Dreamhost, Bluehost, or Netfirms.

Marketing – Department of Operations: Level Zero

Lipsum – Dummy Text Generator

Lorem Ipsum at LipsumLipsum.com is a Dummy Text Generator so that you can create blocks of placeholder text when you’re woking on the layout of a web page or post on your website without having to type “Blah, blah…” over and over again to get enough text so that your images, and sections look right when you’re laying out a Post Draft that might not be ready for publshing let alone have enough research to write the Post. The name is a little confusing in the best of worlds, but this site has made it more so by mixing it up. The term “Lorem Ipsum” or “Greeking” is used in the designed field from back in the printing press days. I just meant to create dummy text that looked Greek because it was so random. The name of the site, Lipsum, is neither Lorem or Ipsum, but similar to both. Good or bad name? You decide. But the tool comes in handy.

  • Problems Solved: Dummy Text Generator

Marketing – Department of Operations: Level Zero

Google Plus

Google Plus

Google Plus is listed first amongst the following 4 Social Networks because we a have already utilized 4 Google products and we’re still at Ground Zero and only just getting started. Obviously Google is killing it, and compared to Facebook, despite the buzz around Facebook’s astronomical growth, Google is still the big dog on the block. And with the quickly evolving feature set of Google Plus, and the integration of the other Google Services, we think this Social Network should be a staple in all Marketing efforts, and the first to get done since we’re already in the neighbourhood. We describe these Social Networks as Utilities because they have become so ubiquitous that their networks are becoming the the Phone companies of the past, as evident by their continued growth in communications as a whole, including voice, video, tv, and so much more.

  • Problems Solved: Social Networking, Network Utility
  • Price: Free, Value added services available for a fee (Voice minutes etc.

YouTube

YouTube Logo

For the same reasons that we listed Google Plus before Facebook, we’ll also list YouTube in priority as well, which is to say, because we’re already there. But YouTube’s inclusion goes beyond mere convenience. YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine in the world, making it critical for content distribution. And since Google won’t ban/kick/slap it’s own property, building links to your videos is a safe way to ensure they get listed in both YouTube and Google searches. Besides, if Content is King, Video is the crown jewel.

  • Problems Solved: Social Networking, Network Utility
  • Price: Free, Value added services available for a fee (Voice minutes etc.

Facebook

Clearly Faecbook, as a marketing tool for Content Website Entreprenuers is an absolute requirement. But it should be deployed as part of an integrated strategy, or as an independent and total strategy. Go hard or go slow… Facebook can reach many, many people, but it’s also emerging as major connective medium for Content Distribution. Make sure you have an account. Build out your page for your poject. Connect it. Use it.

  • Problems Solved: Social Networking, Network Utility
  • Price: Free, Value added services available for a fee (Voice minutes etc.

Twitter

Twitter Logo

Twitter is a utility as you can get. It was the first micro-format communication tools to reach critical mass, and will likely get swallowed up at some point, since at it’s core it is simple a syndication tool for people to find your content through the tweets of your links back to your MoneySite, YouTube Videos, Amazon Books, iTunes Apps and more. Like facebook, it just needs to be integrated into your content marketing sequence so that you can reach the audience through it’s streams of shares.

  • Problems Solved: Social Networking, Network Utility
  • Price: Free, Value added services available for a fee (Voice minutes etc.

Knowem

Knowem

KnowEm was developed to assist everyone – from individuals to Fortune 500 companies – in discovering where their names, brands, or trademarked terms are available (or stolen) on Social Media networks. KnowEm will not only help you secure your name across the vast social media landscape but they can also show you how to contact each site in order to have the name released and returned to you.

Sales – Department of Operations: Level Zero

Amazon Associates – Contextual Sales

Amazon Associates Logo

It used to be that Google Adsense was the first thing I would recommend for people to start with when Monetizing their Content Website Business. But, times have changed. While I stil believe that Google Adsense is right there with Amazon for when to implement, Amazon.com’s Associates program has become more effective, easier to implement (with the help of certain Amazon WordPress Plugins), and more profitable. Not to mention, the process of using Amazon.com can directly result in content for your website, which I can’t say for Google Adsense. Registration is immediate, and you can be earning revenue 5 minutes after you start (given some traffic and a converting piece of content).

  • Problems Solved: Contextual Advertising, Website Monetization
  • Price: Free
  • Income: 4 – 12% Commission

Google Adsense – Contextual Advertising

Google Adsense

Even though I recommend Amazon Associates over Google Adsense for the absolute Newbie, Google Adsense still has it’s place my heart because of two reasons: First, it’s very simple to implement, and finds advertisers for you. Just place your code on all pages, and you’ll have contextually relevant advertisements immediately on your site. No hunting for relevant products to advertise. Second, I believe Google favours websites that have Google Adsense on them in their Search Engine Result Pages. Why wouldn’t they? (Besides some anti-trust violations, but that hasn’t stopped companies before).

  • Problems Solved: Contextual Advertising, Website Monetization
  • Price: Free
  • Income: Pays by Pay-Per-Click and will return around $1.00 ECPM

Level One – Money Making Website Tools and Services

Level One contains a series of Tools and Services that are more elaborate, useful, pervasive and expensive. Where Level Zero was a “Get-Me-Started” suite of nessesary resources, Level one Resources are at the heart of what makes a Money Making Website.

Level Two – Six Figure Website Tools and Services

Leve Two Tools and Services really jump off from their Level One counterparts and that is evident in the sheer volume of Level Two features, especially in the world of WordPress Plugins.

Level Three – Million Dollar Website Resources

Level Three Tools and Services focus more on large scale growth. WIth bigger responsibilities comes bigger expenses. These tools will definitely ding the bottom line, but are worth every, single, penny.
